Logistics Directorate (J-4)

Logistics Directorate (Ј-4) is an inter-service organizational unit of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff intended for planning, organization and implementation of logistical support of the Serbian Armed Forces, command of subordinate units and building their operational capability.
Central Logistics Base is directly subordinated to the Logistics Directorate (J-4).

The Chief of the Logistics Directorate (J-4) is Major General Srđan Petković.

The Logistics Directorate is responsible for:

  • Planning and organizing the logistical support system of the Serbian Armed Forces;
  • Timely and uninterrupted supply of the Serbian Armed Forces with material resources necessary for performing missions and tasks;
  • Planning, organizing and controlling the maintenance of technical means in the Serbian Armed Forces;
  • Planning, organizing and controlling the traffic and transport in the Serbian Armed Forces;
  • Planning, organizing and controlling the activities of general logistics in the Serbian Armed Forces;
  • Providing adequate conditions for personnel life and work, accommodation of equipment and material resources and construction of specific military facilities for performing missions and tasks of the Serbian Armed Forces.

Tradition of the Logistics Directorate


With the establishment of the functional organization of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces in 2005, the Logistics Directorate of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff was formed. At that time, from two entities in the Ministry of Defence and the Serbia and Montenegro Armed Forces— Sector for Military Economic Activity of the Ministry of Defence and Sector for Logistics of the General Staff, three entities were formed at the strategic and operational level of the organization of logistics of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces. These were the Material Resources Sector of the Ministry of Defence, the Logistics Directorate (G-4) of the General Staff of the Serbia and Montenegro Armed Forces and the Logistics Command.

The Logistics Directorate (G-4) is organized through internal organizational units, sections and independent groups which are assigned the competencies of each of the individual logistics functions.

With the change of the name of the internal organizational units of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, in 2007, the Logistics Directorate received the designation J-4 instead of G-4. In this way, the joint operational concept is affirmed as the basic way of accomplishing the missions and tasks of the Serbian Armed Forces.
