Background of TTC
Development and research in the field of armaments and military equipment have had a long tradition in the Serbian military. The first Air Force Test Group was established on December 14, 1933.
After the Second World War, the Central Military Technical Laboratory was established in 1945. Air Force Test Centre was established in the same year, and it continued the work of the Air Force Test Group.
Training ground Nikinci – the central testing ground for the military industry – was established in 1951.
Technical Test Centre was established on March 22, 1973, by transforming seven military technical institutes of the Army. Parts of former institutes for testing and assessing the quality of armaments and military equipment became a part of a new Technical Test Centre, together with the testing grounds "Nikinci" and "Prevlaka". Testing ground "Prevlaka" was moved to other location in 1992, and it became a testing ground "Luštica".
Naval Test Centre was established in 1990 in a naval base "Lora" in Split. Up to 1991, it had worked closely with the Naval Institute in Zagreb. After the collapse of the former state, Naval Test Centre was moved to Tivat, and its headquarters was in Naval Overhaul Institute "Sava Kovačević", where it continued its work as a testing body authorized by the Navy Sector of Yugoslav Armed Forces General Staff.
Due to its achieved results, Technical Test Centre entered the Register of Military Scientific Institutions on April 27, 1983.
In June 1998, the Federal Government reached a decision on the approval of the Technical Test Centre Statute, which made Technical Test Centre a military scientific institution in the form of a research centre.
Upon Minster of Defence’s Decree Air Force Test Centre and Naval Test Centre have been integrated into Technical Test Centre since August 1, 2006. According to the new organization of Technical Test Centre, testing ground "Luštica" is not its part any longer.
