5th MP Battalion

The 5th Military Police Battalion is responsible for conducting military police operations and general security operations in the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces. The above said operations are conducted by military police officers authorized by law to exercise power in their areas of responsibility.

The 5th Military Police Battalion is headquartered in Belgrade with the units based in Novi Sad, Kraljevo and Belgrade. 

The 5th Military Police Battalion is composed of three MP companies, the MP Service Platoon, the Military Working Dog Platoon, the MP Traffic Control Platoon and the Signal Section.  

Lieutenant Colonel Mirko Đokić is the Commander of the 5th Military Police Battalion.

Tasks of the 5th MP Battalion


The 5th MP Battalion is tasked with:

  • Crime prevention to suppress crime,
  • Control and maintenance of military order and discipline,
  • Protection of people, facilities, documents and weapons,
  • Military traffic control,
  • Anti-terrorism and protection in a relevant area of responsibility.  

Background of the 5th MP Battalion


The 5th Military Police Battalion was established in 1992 as the successor to the 283rd MP Battalion of the 93rd Protection Motorized Regiment of the First Army. In 1994, it became the independent formation in the First Army. It had the size of a company until 2002. 

In the period between 2002 and 2006, the personnel and equipment from 55th, 37th and 12th MP battalions were included in the composition of the 5th Military Police Battalion. 

By organizational changes in 2006, the battalion was reestablished to the present size.
