There has been a military ceremony at the SAF Guard's Club in Belgrade today on the occasion of the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, marked in memory of 29 May 1948 when the first UN Peacekeeping Mission was established.
This holiday is marked not only at the UN Headquarters in New York, but also in all member states, and is devoted to all participants in peacekeeping missions, especially those who lost their lives in the service of preserving peace in the world.
The Guard’s Club ceremony was attended by Chief of the Operations Directorate (J-3) of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff Lieutenant General Želimir Glišović, members of the Peacekeeping Operations Centre, veterans and numerous guests.
While expressing recognition and gratitude to all participants in UN peacekeeping missions, who have been risking their lives in the past 75 years to preserve peace in the countries worldwide, General Glišović stressed the SAF members’ professional engagement, competence and skills in performing all the assigned tasks in peacekeeping operations.
Currently, there are 269 SAF members deployed on UN peacekeeping operations who perform the assigned tasks conscientiously and responsibly, giving their contribution to developing and preserving peace in the world and representing their state and armed forces in dignified manner in the international setting.
