Dismantled Pontoon Bridge to Lido Beach

Today, members of the Army pontoon units have dismantled the pontoon bridge that connected the Zemun quay to the Great War Island, marking the end of this year’s swimming season on the Danube Lido Beach.
The 20-ton bridge, made up of 38 pontoon ferries with a total length of 355 meters, was installed in late June this year. In order to ensure complete 24-hour safety for all users of the bridge, a duty crew, responsible for the safety and maintenance of the pontoon bridge, has been deployed.
Elements of the pontoon bridge were dismantled in a complex and demanding procedure into two navigable sections, with which the pontoniers will transport the camp and other equipment by water to the primary location.
In cooperation with the tourist organization of the City Municipality of Zemun, members of the Serbian Armed Forces have been responsible for bridging the Danube from the Great War Island to the Zemun bank for years. Except for the benefits for the citizens, it is also an excellent opportunity to improve further the skills of pontoon units in performing intended tasks.
