A working group consisting of engineers from the Second Army Brigade is engaged in the construction of a road in the vicinity of the Žiča Monastery near Kraljevo.
The construction work is being carried out as part of regular training, at the request of the monastery’s sisterhood. Cutting the new road through the woods helps both SAF soldiers and road construction engineers to improve their skills.
According to the commander of the working group, Second Lieutenant Danilo Božović, thanks to modern machines that the Engineer Battalion of the Second Army Brigade is equipped with, the working group is able to clear the land through the woods at a quick pace and construct a good quality road communication, connecting all required elements, thereby improving daily functioning of the sisterhood of the Žiča Monastery.
— Over the past several years, we have managed to finish the defensive rampart around the monastery and to restore and secure the monastery’s fish pond. I would like to thank the nuns for their hospitality and emphasize that it is a great honour for members of the Serbian Armed Forces to help the sisterhood of the Žiča Monastery — said Second Lieutenant Božović.
Sister Nektarija confirmed that the cooperation between the Žiča Monastary and the Serbian Armed Forces was more than two decades long. According to her, during that period, the military have built a lot of access roads and they still participate in the renovation of the monastic complex, building a rampart and digging a canal that facilitated the installation of an irrigation system in the monastery’s orchards.
— We are deeply grateful to every member of the Serbian Armed Forces who works here as if it were their home, and we are also grateful to the Serbian Armed Forces and the Chief of the General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, who has approved the works to be carried out this year as well. We are witnesses to the fact that today, Žiča is much better organized than perhaps ever before in history and we are genuinely grateful to every man contributing to that, to our people, to the Serbian Armed Forces and to the state — emphasized Sister Nektarija and added that the construction of these roads helps improve the entire monastic complex.
