Exercise “Ravanica 2014”

Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic and Head of the General Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic, accompanied by members of the Collegium, attended today the Day of High Officials of the joint tactical exercise with live firing “Ravanica 2014”, which was conducted at the mixed shooting ground Pasuljanske Livade near Cuprija. This is the largest exercises done by the Armed Forces of Serbia this year.
Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic and Head of the General Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic, accompanied by members of the Collegium, attended today the Day of High Officials of the joint tactical exercise with live firing “Ravanica 2014”, which was conducted at the mixed shooting ground Pasuljanske Livade near Cuprija.
This is the largest exercises done by the Armed Forces of Serbia this year, with around 860 participants – members of the Armed Forces, also attended by representatives of the Army and the Air Forces of Russia.
The Defence Minister and the Head of the General Staff evaluated that the exercise had been conducted very well. While visiting participants of the exercise after its end, the Minister of Defence stated that, today, they had shown the highest level of training of units in peacetime.
- On that, I congratulate you, and I wish you to remain at that level for much longer – Gasic added. According to him, today’s practice was another confirmation of skillfulness of units of the Armed Forces of Serbia, and a practice like this has not been organized in our country since 1989. Minister also pointed out that efforts will be dedicated to organizing more such exercises in the future.
Speaking about the importance of today’s practice, General Dikovic stressed that the goal is to check fire and tactical capability of units for conducting tactical tasks, and to check the mechanized battalion which had been improved and equipped for attack.
- You have seen the extent to which our soldiers and our battalion are trained for conducting most complex tasks. The firing success is very good; the tactical work is very good. I am truly pleased with such high level of training of one of our battalions for completing tasks that are extremely complex and demanding when it comes to their nature and organization, ways of action and use of live firing means. We can count on them completely – General Dikovic stated.
The demonstrational joint tactical live firing exercise “Ravanica 2014”, whose theme was “Strengthened mechanized battalion in attack”, was performed by members of the Fourth Army Brigade, in coordination with units of the First and the Third Army Brigade, Mixed Artillery Brigade, 246th CBRN Battalion, and a part of units of the Air Force, Air Defence and the Training Command.
The objective of this exercise, commanded by Brigadier General Zoran Lubura, Commander of the Fourth Brigade, is to advance the level of training of commands in the planning process, organizing and conducting operations, training units to encompass firing and movement, and to carry out tactical tasks and steps during attack.
After the exercise was finished, on behalf of participants of the “Ravanica 2014” exercise, General Lubura awarded Minister Gasic with an army dagger in front of the line on the plateau of the shooting ground Pasuljanske Livade.
