Today, a military ceremony has been held at the “Dedinje” Barracks in Belgrade on the occasion of the Day of the Serbian Armed Forces’ Guard commemorated in memory of 06 May 1830, when the first Serbian guard unit was formed in Požarevac.
The ceremony has been attended by Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff Lieutenant General Želimir Glišović, representatives of the organizational units of the Ministry of Defense and Serbian Armed Forces and numerous guests.
Congratulating the members of the Guard, General Glišović has said that this unit represents an important pillar of the entire defense system, considering a large number of tasks it performs.
“Looking at this formation and knowing what our armed forces have at their disposal, I am certain that even in the times full of challenges for our fatherland Serbia, the Serbian Armed Forces will remain strong and reliable armed forces that can deal with all assigned tasks” claimed General Glišović.
As part of today’s ceremony, a parade of Guard units was held and awards were presented to the most successful individuals, while yesterday, on the occasion of the holiday, wreaths were laid at the monument to Prince Miloš Obrenović in Požarevac, by whose order the Gvardija was established 194 years ago.
