This month, an international course for United Nations staff officers is being held at the "South" base near Bujanovac, attended by members of the Serbian Armed Forces, the Ministry of the Interior and the Armed Forces from 16 countries on five continents.
During the three-week training, conducted by instructors from the Peacekeeping Operations Centre and the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the support of guest lecturers from the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff and the Ministry of Defence, participants are trained to work on staff duties in the United Nations peacekeeping operations.
The training program is modeled to include basic aspects of the functioning of UN integrated missions, introduction to the planning process in the military component of the mission, staff functions and procedures, and a significant part of the course is dedicated to reviewing experiences from participation in current UN peacekeeping operations.
The Peacekeeping Operations Centre has been certified to conduct this course according to the United Nations standards and procedures since 2015. Significant international interest in attending the course is a confirmation of the quality of training and preparation that the Serbian Armed Forces conduct for the needs of deployment in peacekeeping operations.
