Training of Service Dogs for Protection in SAF

Training of military service dogs intended for protection in the Serbian Armed Forces is being performed at the specialized training area of the Dog Training Centre in "Knjaz Mihailo" barracks in Niš.
The objective of the training, which encompasses overcoming obstacles and defence and attack exercises in daily and nightly conditions, is to train dogs to perform tasks within special, reconnaissance and military police units.
After completing the training, the dogs are competent to overcome natural and artificial obstacles and can be used to assist in setting an ambush, patrol, search of terrain and buildings, and when catching, detaining and disabling persons in performing illegal acts.
Service dogs in the Serbian Armed Forces are of great importance in the execution of certain tasks due to their superior sense of sight and smell, and their ability to defeat the enemy quickly and without the use of lethal force.
