Today, 04 December — Military Veterans’ Day has been marked at the Serbian Armed Forces’ commands, units and institutions with a series of commemorative activities as a sign of respect for and in memory of the warriors who fought for the freedom of the homeland.
On this occasion, a ceremonial academy has been held at the Guard’s Club, with the presence of Minister of Defense Miloš Vučević and Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff General Milan Mojsilović, their collegiums, representatives of state institutions, veterans’ associations, religious communities and military-diplomatic corps, military veterans and many distinguished visitors.
As part of the holiday celebration, in several cities and municipalities, delegations from the Ministry of Defense and Serbian Armed Forces laid wreaths and flowers at memorials to the commanding officers and soldiers perished in liberation and defensive wars and they participated in commemorative ceremonies at the local level.
The Military Veterans’ Day is marked in memory of the day in 1912 when an armistice was signed in the First Balkan War and when 400,000 fighters from the Army of the Kingdom of Serbia received the title of “old warrior”, that is, military veteran.
