Balkan Countries CHODs Conference

Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff General Milan Mojsilović has participated in the 17th Balkan Countries CHODs Conference, held today in the Albanian city of Durrës.

At this year’s forum of leaders of regional armed forces, the discussion focused on the experience and views on the engagement of young people in the defense and security sector and the challenges in attracting and retaining this population in the armed forces.

They also discussed other topics relevant to further development of regional defense cooperation and implementation of joint activities aimed at improving military-to-military relations among regional countries.

During his address, General Mojsilović has pointed out the importance of regional military-to-military cooperation for the preservation of peace and security, especially in the conditions of a complex security situation at the global level, emphasizing that this forum gives a positive impetus to strengthening mutual confidence and defense capabilities of regional countries. He has also stressed that the Serbian Armed Forces remain open for cooperation in all areas of common interest, primarily in the field of training, and are ready to offer their facilities for training of the service members from the member nations of this initiative.

During his stay in Durrës, the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff had separate meetings with Chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina Lieutenant General Gojko Knežević, Chief of Defense Staff of the Romanian Armed Forces General Gheorghiță Vlad, Chief of the General Staff of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia Lieutenant General Vasko Djurchinovski and Deputy Commander JFC Naples Lieutenant General Stephen Kelsey, with whom he discussed the scope of bilateral military-to-military cooperation and possibilities of its further improvement.

The Balkan Countries CHODs Conference brings together the Chiefs of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Serbia, North Macedonia, Türkiye and Montenegro, with the aim of strengthening military-to-military cooperation of the Balkan countries and a means of response to contemporary security challenges, risks and threats. This year’s forum has been attended by the Chief of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces and representatives of the European Union, NATO and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia as guests.

Belgrade hosted the BCHODs Conference in 2009 and 2018, while the host of the 18th Conference, to be held next year, will be the Republic of Türkiye.
