Training of handlers and service dogs for anti-terrorist and anti-sabotage operations in the Serbian Armed Forces Special and Military Police units is underway at the Dog Training Center in Niš.
The training is attended by professional soldiers - dog handlers, who acquire the knowledge and skills at the Center necessary for the use of dogs in special operations of the Serbian Armed Forces and providing first aid in case of illness or injury to a dog during the execution of the task.
Training of the dogs which were bred in the Center and specially selected for this purpose is carried out in parallel with the training of the handlers, and these dogs will be assigned to the Serbian Armed Forces units after the successful completion of the training.
Training for these duties takes several months. In accordance with the tasks for which the dogs are planned, general training and practice of specific activities are conducted during this time, such as attack, defense, overcoming natural and artificial obstacles, breaking into buildings and motor vehicles and neutralizing opponents.
The training of handlers and dogs for special actions and operations, which is carried out at the Center throughout the year, contributes to the improvement of the capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces Special Forces, since dogs, thanks to their superior senses and ability to quickly overcome the opponent , without the use of lethal force, are an irreplaceable companion in many tasks.
