The Military Veterans Day (04 December) has been marked at the Serbian Armed Forces’ commands, units and institutions today with a series of commemorative activities held as a sign of respect for and memory of warriors who fought for the freedom of the homeland.
On this occasion, a ceremonial academy has been held at the Guard’s Club, in the presence of Minister of Defense Bratislav Gašić and Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff General Milan Mojsilović, members of their collegiums, representatives of institutions of the Republic, traditional and veteran associations, religious communities, military-diplomatic corps and numerous guests.
In the cities and municipalities throughout the Republic, delegations of the MOD and Serbian Armed Forces laid wreaths and flowers at the memorials to officers and soldiers killed in defensive and liberation wars, participating also in commemorative ceremonies at the local level.
The Military Veterans Day is marked in memory of the day when the armistice was signed in the First Balkan War in 1912 and when 400,000 soldiers of the Army of the Kingdom of Serbia received the title of “old warrior”, that is, when they became military veterans.
