A Training Command unit of the Serbian Armed Forces that participated in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) returned to the Republic of Serbia after completing successfully its deployment.
Over the last six months, this unit had been engaged in the tasks of securing a base where the Italian contingent of UN peacekeeping forces was located, and it was also replaced by a SAF unit, which had been sent to the area of operation this month.
The replacement took place at the United Nations base in Lebanon, with the presence of the Commander of the Italian contingent; at the ceremony held on the occasion, SAF members were awarded medals for successful participation in the mission and contribution to building and preserving peace.
The Serbian Armed Forces have been participating in UNIFIL since 2010, and, in addition to the force protection platoon, an infantry company, staff officers in the mission HQ and a group of specialist officers in charge of supporting our contingent have also been engaged in this operation.
