On that day in 1876, Prince Milan Obrenović made a decision to form the General Staff of the Serbian Army, which consisted of three departments. The second department was Geographical Department, intended for measuring Serbia for military purposes.
With your expertise in the field of geo-topographic security of the Serbian Armed Forces, you make an immense contribution not only to building and strengthening the operational capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces, but also to the implementation of projects of general social importance.

I congratulate the Strategic Research Institute Day, February 05, to all its members.
On that day in 1876, Prince Milan Obrenović passed the Decree "The Establishment of the Main General Staff", which stipulates that the General Staff has three departments, of which the third is a Historical Department. Thus, the basis for the first institutional engagement with military history was established.
With your expert and professional attitude towards the realization of numerous scientific and research projects and analyzes in the field of security, defense, international relations and military history, you successfully cherish more than a 140-year long tradition and therefore placing the Institute in the ranks of contemporary and modern institutes.

On behalf of the members of the Serbian Armed Forces and myself, I congratulate the Military Archives Day, February 05, to all its members.
On that day in 1876, Prince Milan Obrenović passed the Decree "The Establishment of the Main General Staff", which stipulates that the General Staff has three departments, of which the third is a Historical Department, with the task of "collecting historical data", that is, keeping the entire archives and managing the General Staff Library. Thus, the basis for the first institutional engagement with military history and archives in the Serbian Army was established, which to this day strengthens archival activity.
Convinced that in the future you will successfully collect, preserve and process archive material, I congratulate you on the Day of the institution.
