The Council for the Safety of Military Road Users held a meeting at the Guard’s Club in Topčider Barracks today, where traditional awards were presented to the safest drivers from the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and the Serbian Armed Forces over the past year.
Staff Sergeant 1st Class Mile Platiša, commander of the Transport Section in the Banat Brigade, was declared safest driver in the NCO category. Lance Corporal Igor Hlatki, a motor vehicle driver in the 204th Air Force Brigade, was said to be the safest driver in the category of professional soldiers, while the safest among civilians was military servant Dragutin Majstorović, a driver in the 2nd Army Brigade.
The 2024 Best Driver Awards were handed over by the President of the Council, Deputy Chief of Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, Lieutenant General Tiosav Janković.
During today’s meeting they analyzed the state of traffic safety in the Republic of Serbia and its defense system and degree to which the goals stipulated in the Safety Strategy for Military Road Users were realized. Members of the Council were briefed on the activities behind drafting a new law on road traffic safety.
Colonel Dragiša Zinaja, Head of the Traffic and Transport Section, Logistics Directorate (J-4) of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, has said that the first meeting of this year’s Council was a good opportunity for representatives of the defense system to find out more about the content of the planned law.
— The meeting was very detailed and we managed to determine through an analytical approach which preventive measures that we had prescribed were not effective and where we were not efficient enough. We succeeded in defining new conclusions that were supposed to improve further the safety of military road users — said Colonel Zinaja, expressing his belief that Safest Driver Awards would be a motivation for high-standard and safe driving of military motor vehicles.
The Council for the Safety of Military Road Users is an expert body that deals primarily with improving the safety of military drivers, and in addition to the most responsible officers of the SAF Transportation Service, it involves representatives of the MOI Traffic Safety Agency, Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering of the University of Belgrade and Faculty of Technical Sciences from Novi Sad.
