Meteorological and Navigation Service Day

Today, a ceremonial academy was held at the Air Force Club in Zemun to mark the Day of the Meteorological and Navigation Service and 100th anniversary of the formation of the first meteorological section in the Serbian Army.
At the ceremony, the most significant results of the service’s work in the year behind us were presented, awards were given to the best individuals, as well as certificates of appreciation to the institutions with which successful cooperation was achieved in the implementation of specific tasks. On the occasion of the holiday, documentary film “100 Years of Meteorological Service” was presented, and an exhibition was organized in the gallery of the Air Force Club.
The holiday celebration was an opportunity to review the century-long history of the service and highlight the dedication and self-sacrifice of generations of military and civilian personnel, thanks to which the meteorological and navigation service is today a highly professional part of the Serbian Armed Forces equipped in a modern way.
The meteorological and navigational service in the Serbian Armed Forces is intended for observing, processing and reporting data on the meteorological and hydrological situation, making meteorological forecasts, as well as for collecting, processing and distributing information on hydrographic and navigational conditions that affect the preparations and execution of the task.
The Day of Meteorological and Navigation Service of the Serbian Armed Forces is celebrated on 01 November in memory of the day when, in 1923, in Petrovaradin, the meteorological section of the First Air Force Command was founded, whose task was to deal with the organization of the aviation meteorological service and fill it with personnel and equipment.
