Today, at the Peacekeeping Operations Center in Belgrade, there has been a ceremony on the occasion of sending off an SAF medical team to the EU Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM Somalia).

As part of our contingent, that will be performing its tasks in the AO over the next six months, there are a staff officer appointed as head of the medical service in the mission and a medical team that will be in charge of medical support of training and primary health care of international forces’ members stationed at Mogadishu Airport.

They will replace the Serbian Armed Forces’ doctors and medical technicians, who have successfully carried out all tasks in accordance with the mission’s mandate in Somalia since last August, thus confirming the reputation of the medical service of the Serbian Armed Forces in an international environment.

The farewell ceremony was attended by Chief of the Operations Directorate (J-3) of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff Major General Gordan Pavlović, and Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Serbia Plamena Halacheva.

On this occasion, Ms. Halacheva has expressed her satisfaction with the activities undertaken by the Serbian Armed Forces to select, equip and train their members before deployment to EU multinational operations, emphasizing particularly positive remarks on the work of the Serbian Armed Forces’ members engaged in EUTM Somalia.

The Serbian Armed Forces began participating in EUTM Somalia in 2012; so far, more than 130 doctors and medical technicians have been engaged in this mission, performing the roles at the HQ and as part of the medical team. By engaging in both UN and EU peacekeeping operations, the Serbian Armed Forces actively contribute to strengthening our country’s position in terms of its foreign policy, apart from building and safeguarding peace in the world.
