Foundation Stone Laid for Construction of New Facility for “Kobre”

The Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces and President of the Republic, Aleksandar Vučić, attended today the laying of a foundation stone for the construction of a new accommodation and training facility for the Special Purpose Military Police Detachment “Kobre”, at the Vasa Čarapić Barracks in Belgrade.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić, Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff Lt. Gen. Želimir Glišović, Commander of “Kobre” Col. Darko Đošić, members of the respective collegiums of the Minister of Defence and the Chief of the General Staff and members of “Kobre”, who symbolically marked the beginning of the construction of the new facility.
In his address to “Kobre” members, the President of Serbia expressed his deep respect and appreciation for their hard work, he said that they were brave, responsible and utterly loyal to their homeland, and he expressed his delight at attending the foundation stone laying ceremony.
— It is my great honour and pleasure to announce the beginning of the construction of a new facility at the Vasa Čarapić Barracks that will become a new home for your elite detachment. You have long deserved the best working and training conditions and the aim of this project is to ensure that you have them. I have asked almost every member of “Kobre” if they were satisfied with the project and they all said that it was what they had been looking for and that it would be the fulfilment of all their professional dreams — said President Vučić.
According to President Vučić, the facility will include all the necessary elements for the perfect functioning of the unit — from big classrooms and modern shooting range to specialized areas for physical and tactical training.
— The accommodation and recreation facilities are also planned, so that you have everything in one place. In addition to this, a full reconstruction of certain facilities will also be undertaken. For you, these new premises are a symbol of dedication and always striving for excellence, but they are also a symbol of our effort to invest in our best people — emphasized the President of Serbia.
He added that a lot more would be invested in the military and that there would be an additional salary increase in the coming months.
— Today’s five or 10 percent salary increase means much more than a 20 or 30 percent increase in the past. I believe that you will be able to provide a more decent life for your families, and when it comes to the defence of the homeland and deterrence against potential aggressors, we always count on you — said President Vučić and wished the members of “Kobre” many more successful exercises and training activities in the future, and expressed hope that they would never have to use their knowledge and warfighting skills. He also expressed his confidence that, if an aggressor forces us, “Kobre” will be the first ones to respond unquestioningly, as always before.
The President of the Republic thanked the members of the detachment for their commitment, love for Serbia, and hard work and expressed confidence that the 15,000 square metres that will soon be constructed at the Vasa Čarapić Barracks will satisfy their needs and contribute to furthering their capabilities and combat readiness.
