SERBIAN ARMED FORCES HELP WITH UNBLOCKING SNOWBOUND ROADS

Members of SAF have joined in unblocking the roads after snowdrifts and strong gusts of wind have left people and vehicles completely snowbound in several locations. Transport helicopter Mi-17 (HT-48) (204th Air Force Brigade) has been transporting people, who got trapped in the snow near Stajićevo last night, to the general hospital in Zrenjanin. 84 people, including a woman with a one-year old child, have been transported up so far.

Minister of Defence, Mr Nebojša Rodić, Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Ljubiša Diković and Head of the Sector for Emergency Management, Ministry of Interior, Mr Predrag Marić have visited the area in question.
People who decide to travel in these weather conditions, I have to say, show suprising lack of responsibility. We are ready for the upcoming evening and the military vehicles will remain in the field. – said Minister of Defence, Mr Nebojša Rodić.
Mr Predrag Marić, the Head of the Sector for Emergency Management, said that all the passengers who got stuck in the snow on the road Stajićevo-Perlez have to be evacuated before nightfall. In addition, he warned the citizens not to start their journeys because the weather is expected to become even worse during the night.
On the road Bačka Topola-Subotica, near Novo Orahovo, the 1st Army Brigade has used a tank for the purpose of hauling vehicles stuck in the snow. The tank helped with clearing snow away and pulling out dozens of snow-stranded vehicles. Military vehicle carrying warm tea reached the people who were exposed to extremely cold weather. The Commander of the 1st Army Brigade, General Stojan Batinić and Commander of the Bačka Topola garrison, Ltc Slađan Arsenić were present on the spot.
The 333rd Engineering battalion has been sent to the most critical road Perlez-Stajićevo together with Gazela helicopter, which is checking out the area. The 1st Army Brigade military engineering vehicles have been sent to the road Bačka Topola-Kula.
Two military engineering vehicles are on the road Pančevo-Banatsko Novo Selo- Vladimirovac, trying to keep it passable.
Members of the 1st Army Brigade, Special brigade and Banat Brigade have provided sleeping bags, blankets, warm clothes and beverages for the people in need.
The Army Training Centre sent an ambulance to the village of Kličevac, near Veliko Gradište, which has also been exposed to extreme weather conditions.
