Training of Future Serbian Armed Forces Helicopter Pilots
Thursday, 20.2.2025 | Training
The Serbian Armed Forces' future helicopter pilots, who were assigned to professional military service after completing military training for reserve aviation officers, are being trained at the military airport "Colonel-Pilot Milenko Pavlović" in Batajnica.
This is mandatory flight training that aviation officers undergo to obtain the title of military pilot, after six months of training at the Military Academy. It is performed on a "Gazelle" type helicopter, in the 890th Mixed Helicopter Squadron "Pegazi" (Pegasi) of the 204th Air Force Brigade.
The flight instructor in the 890th Mixed Helicopter Squadron, Captain Aleksandar Ćirić, explained which segments of flight training the aviation officers go through and what kind of preparations precede the flight.
— The very concept of training is such that after completing the basic section of flying, the aviation officers go on to the following sections — navigation flight, instrument flight, flying in night conditions, and group flying. Complete training takes place on the "Gazelle" helicopter, said Captain Ćirić.
Second Lieutenant Andrija Pešić was assigned to the 890th Mixed Helicopter Squadron after completing military training for reserve aviation officers, and as he pointed out, he was motivated to take this step by the desire to fly that he had from childhood.
— After the announcement of the competition on the website of the Ministry of Defence, I applied and joined the selection process. The selection process consisted of health and psychological analyses, parachute training, and, at the very end, selective flying. After completing all parts of the selection, we started the actual course lasting six months at the Military Academy. Military training at the Military Academy was done in several segments — the first part was basic infantry training, after that, we started with theoretical flying subjects, to spend the last two months in the squadrons themselves, I specifically in the helicopter squadron for basic flying training — said Second Lieutenant Pešić, expressing his gratitude to senior colleagues from the unit who were a support and professional role model for the newly recruited officers throughout the entire training process.
He invited all young and ambitious people to apply to the open competition for reserve aviation officers military training, which is open until March 31, 2025, and to become pilots of the Serbian Armed Forces.
