Serbian Armed Forces’ Day

The Serbian Armed Forces Day — April 23 has been solemnly marked with a series of events in the commands, units and institutions of the Serbian Armed Forces and Ministry of Defense, in memory of the day when the Second Serbian Uprising broke out, which represented a turning point in the creation of the modern Serbian state and armed forces.
In front of the ceremonial formations of the Serbian Armed Forces’ members, congratulations were read on the occasion of the holiday, with a reminder of the rich military and warrior history of Serbia and the importance of the army for preserving freedom, dignity, tradition and the most important values of our nation.
On the occasion of the biggest military holiday, decorations, awards and commendations were awarded to individuals who excelled in the year behind us achieving outstanding work results.
Wreaths were laid at the Monument to the Unknown Hero on Avala, in the Memorial Complex in Takovo dedicated to the Second Serbian Uprising, and war memorials honoring soldiers who died in defensive and liberation wars. Numerous cultural and artistic events have been staged promoting the history, honor and values of the Serbian soldier and Serbian Armed Forces.
The holiday was announced with a gun salute from the Sava Terrace in Kalemegdan, conducted by order of the Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces and President of the Republic, and, this year, the Minister of Defense and Chief of the General Staff will host a ceremonial reception in the Great War Hall of the Old General Staff.
