Minister Vulin at the Celebration of the Guard Day: The Superior Commander has but one desire, one request and one order – everything for Serbia, Serbia for nothing in the world

Today, Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin attended a celebration of marking 6th May – the Day of the Guard of the Serbian Armed Forces held in the barracks “Dedinje” in Belgrade.

Congratulating the holiday to the Guard members, Minister Vulin underlined that they are “the best and the most beautiful that is first shown to the guests when they come to see our dear Serbia, and you are here so the guests remember us and see what kind of people and armed forces they have come to talk to, to learn from and to admire”.

– You are the first thing that sends a picture of our country, and you carry the flag proudly and high, which is the flag bestowed upon you by better from you which you will pass to even better than you. You are all that, but not just that. You are a combat unit which, throughout its history remembers numerous battles, wars, which remembers throughout its long history who with, when and how it fought and waged wars, giving and doing everything so that this patch of land of ours, is and remains ours – the minister of defence stressed.

According to him, the Serbs love peace and they are ready to do almost everything for the peace.

– The Serbs love and appreciate freedom, and they are ready to do all it takes for freedom, just like the ones before you were, and like you are. There is no greater value than freedom and Serbia chose from its origin, with its long tradition, and its future to defend freedom at any cost. Today, we are militarily neutral and we have decided to know not to accept the wars of the mighty ones as our own, we are determined and sure that we will defend our country and our freedom and the Serbs wherever they live. Our entire people has to be assured and confident that it has the armed forces capable of protecting its freedom and its right to exist and its right to last – Minister Vulin sent the message.

Speaking about the Guard of the Serbian Armed Forces, the minister of defence pointed out that it was a unit that the most of them all has a task to protect tradition that is so long and so bright, and to be worthy of those who walked before it and to make the ones that are yet to come proud.

– Serbia has the armed forces capable of protecting and defending, it also has people who trust the armed forces, who   love, honour and appreciate them. It is up to us, all of us in the system of defence to make every soldier trained, equipped, secured and satisfied, and to make his family proud of him and the life he leads. Such armed forces protect Serbia, and for such armed forces our Supreme Commander Aleksandar Vučić has but one great desire, one request and one order – Everything for Serbia, Serbia for nothing in the world! – Minister Vulin concluded.

Speaking about the tasks of the Guard of the Serbian Armed Forces, Commander of that unit Major General Milomir Todorović underscored that the Guard had always represented the strength and mainstay throughout the history of our state.

– And on this occasion as well we express unwavering and steadfast determination to stand, as part of defence system of the Republic of Serbia, in the front lines of its struggle for equal, independent and prosperous place in the world. Confronting modern challenges, our fatherland has another powerful weapon at its disposal – the honour of the Guard and adamant loyalty to the highest values of our state – General Todorović stressed.

At today’s celebration, the Guard units performed a march-past during which they presented lined in echelons part of capabilities and show case motor vehicles which they possess, and on the occasion of the holidays, an echelon of escort motorcycles, which have recently entered service in the Guard, participated in the parade for the first time.

The celebration was attended by the President of the National Board for Coordination of Cooperation with the Russian Federation and China Tomislav Nikolić, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces Major General Petar Cvetković and members of the Board of the Chief of General Staff, representatives of institutions and guests.

The Guard members celebrate two holidays on this date, since it is also the Day of the Holy Martyr George which is the Patron Saint of the members of the Guard.

Members of the Guard of the Serbian Armed Forces mark 6th May in memory of the day when Prince Miloš Obrenović passed an order on St. George’s Day in 1830 in Požarevac on selecting a group of 73 handsome young men which later formed the first Guard unit in Serbia.
