Course on Protection of Civilians in Multinational Operations

The international course "Protection of civilians in multinational operations" organized by the Peacekeeping Operations Centre, which is taking place online this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, started today.
The objective of the five-day course is to train the participants to understand the concept of protection of civilians in the UN multinational operations in accordance with the mission mandate and rules of engagement.
The programme includes contemporary challenges and priorities of peacekeeping operations, the basics of the United Nations concept on civilian protection, the implementation of civilian protection and gender perspective in peacekeeping operations, and the presentation of practical experience from the United Nations missions.
The instructors from the Peacekeeping Operations Centre and guest lecturers from the Peace Support Operations Training Centre in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Peacekeeping Operations Centre in Hungary, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Serbian Red Cross and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees are engaged in the course.
Besides the members of the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces, 43 members of foreign armed forces from 31 countries, from five continents, attend the course. The great interest for participation in this course is the recognition of the high quality of training and preparation that the Serbian Armed Forces conduct for the needs of participation in peacekeeping operations.
