Memorial service to killed soldiers was served by the priests of Uzice church and while the respect were paid by Minister of Transport Aleksandar Antic, the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Ljubisa Diković delegations of SUBNOR, the town of Uzice and descendants. The ceremony marking the anniversary of the Battle of Kadinjaca was attended by the State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Zoran Djordjevic.
— Today we remember those who in 1941, right here on the hill Kadinjača , laid their lives on the altar of freedom and peace , defending at that time the only light of freedom, the first free territory in imprisoned Europe at the beginning of World War II. The monument in front of which we are standing was erected in honor of those who are just aiming to achieve the ideals of liberty and justice and the message to today’s generations is not to forget the heroic deeds of their ancestors in the fight against fascism — as Minister Antic said, adding that the Government of the Republic of Serbia continues to nurture anti-fascist legacy.
Mayor of Uzice Sasa Milosevic reminded that Kadinjača was a place of sacrifice in the name of ideals and faith and freedom as a condition of life must be defended.
— For the soldiers of the Workers Battalion was a task that had to be completed, regardless of the fact that hey were outnumbered by ten times and possessed the most modern armed forces. Hundreds of them made a supreme effort by holding at bay occupying forces, whose leadership on Kadinjaca sent more than three thousand soldiers. During this time, Supreme Headquarters and partisan hospital managed to get evacuated. The fighters were aware that they would not return from Kadinjaca. They were ordinary people and honest workers on whom the war imposed roles they did not want in the first place, but which they accepted boldly and without hesitation, due to a sense of duty to the country. For the same reason we remember it, because only then can we be worthy of the freedom paid in lives.
