Joint Air Defence Live Fire exercise “Shabla 2021“
Friday, 4.6.2021 | Training
Members of the 250th Air Defence Missile Brigade and the 204th Air Force Brigade are conducting a joint air defence live fire exercise together with members of the Bulgarian Armed Forces, at the "Shabla" firing range in the Republic of Bulgaria.
The ten-day exercise, with about 120 members of the Serbian Armed Forces participating, is designed to increase the capability of the Air Force and Air Defence units to protect the airspace.
On the Black Sea coast, members of the 250th Missile Brigade will perform live firing from the "Neva" and "Cube" missile systems, while members of the 204th Air Force Brigade will engage air targets from MiG-29 aircraft.
In Bulgaria, members of the Air Force and Air Defence were greeted by rain and unusually cold weather for this time of year, but that did not stop them from starting preparations for the upcoming firing with their colleagues on the first day, after raising the flags of the two countries.
When combat crews and individuals are in situations most similar to combat action, live-fire is of profound importance for members of missile units and fighter aviation and it is a logical continuation of the training conducted at home.
Members of the Air Force and Air Defence were successful in live-fire exercises at the Bulgarian Armed Forces' Black Sea firing range in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2017 and 2019.
