Swim for the Holy Cross

In several cities and municipalities, members of the Serbian Armed Forces participated in organizing and conducting traditional Swim for the Holy Cross on the great Christian festival — Theophany.
Despite the very cold water and low air temperatures, members of the Serbian Armed Forces swam for faith, honor and prestige at 57 locations alongside numerous citizens.
On Lake Uvac near Sjenica, the first to swim to the Holy Cross was a member of the Serbian Armed Forces, Lance Corporal Ljubomir Ašanin, 2nd Army Brigade.
To make sure that this event is successfully organized, the Serbian Armed Forces placed a ship and water tankers, set up pontoon ferries and tents and provided hot drinks for the citizens-contestants in the Swim for the Holy Cross.
Open water swimming for the Theophany Cross in observance of the day of Christ’s baptism is registered in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Serbia, and, following tradition, every year, members of the Serbian Armed Forces take part in the organization of this event.
