On the occasion of the Serbian Armed Forces’ Day, Minister of Defense Bratislav Gašić – an envoy of Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces and President of the Republic Aleksandar Vučić – has laid a wreath at the Monument to the Unknown Hero on Avala today, accompanied by Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff General Milan Mojsilović and Commander of the Guard, Brigadier General Željko Furundžić.
To the sound of the anthem of the Republic of Serbia and ceremonial formation of the Serbian Armed Forces’ Guard, following the wreath-laying ceremony, Minister Gašić wrote the following in the memorial book:
“Freedom was not presented as a gift; in fact, it was defended with blood. Eternal glory to the heroes who defended it and bestowed it on us. Long live the Serbian Armed Forces! Long live Serbia!”
The Serbian Armed Forces’ Day is marked in memory of 23 April 1815, when the Second Serbian Uprising broke out, the day that represented a turning point in the creation of the modern Serbian state and armed forces.
