The situation in Kosovo and Metohija is very complex, brimming with tensions and unilateral actions that influence the state of security. Despite that, I would define the situation as stable, but according to all parameters, also highly unpredictable – said the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, Lieutenant General Milan Mojsilović appearing in the morning news of the Radio Television of Serbia.

General Mojsilović pointed out that the responsibility rested on the units of KFOR, which were obliged to provide and fulfil in an unbiased fashion everything defined in the United Nation Security Council Resolution 1244 and Military Technical Agreement, especially the creation of a secure and stable situation in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija.

– We are, first of all, interested in the protection of our citizens in Kosovo and Metohija and we daily exchange information with KFOR that are significant for the state of security, about our activities along the Administrative Line and in Kosovo and Metohija aimed at preventing misunderstandings in the field. The President of the Republic of Serbia and Serbian Government are dedicated and oriented towards a peaceful resolution of the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, so the option implying a military reaction is currently excluded, or better to say that it is not under consideration. I, as the first among the soldiers, cannot exclude it, but I would like to send a message to the citizens that, at this moment, it is not under consideration and that the situation in the field is very closely monitored – said General Mojsilović.

According to him, one cannot say that the situation in the Serbian Armed Forces is normal since we have an open security issue in the country.

– In the last 19 years, we have been having the respectable forces of the Serbian Armed Forces engaged along the entire Administrative line, in 24 locations, and they are performing the tasks of not only securing that line but of controlling the Ground Safety Zone as well – said the Chief of the General Staff.

General Mojsilović also spoke about the changes in the Serbian Armed Forces, primarily about its equipping.

– The Serbian Armed Forces are much stronger. I would like to point out that the Air Force now possesses 14 aircraft MiG-29. Ten of them are in Serbia, while four are being overhauled and modernised in Belarus. We expect them to arrive next year, and we are “counting the days” till the moment of arrival of the first “Airbus” helicopter. That will certainly influence the overall capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces, though the progress can already be seen. For example, we have doubled the flight hours of our aviation and our pilots in the previous months – stressed the first man of the Serbian Armed Forces.

The Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff took the opportunity to announce a grand military and police parade which is going to take place on 24th March in Niš, to mark two decades of NATO Aggression against FRY.

– We will give a contribution to the parade in our unique way. Along with the echelons of the units of the Serbian Armed Forces and Police, and motorised echelons, we will present materiel used by the Serbian Armed Forces. You will see the aircraft and more than 150 fighting systems, cadet sub-echelons, war flags of the units from 1999 and much more. All that is going to be presented with the aim of showing our citizens that the armed forces and police are ready, trained and motivated to execute all the tasks assigned to them – stated Lieutenant General Milan Mojsilović in his appearance in the morning news of the Radio Television of Serbia.
