The Serbian Armed Forces’ unit from the Training Command, which had been deployed as part of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) since last September, returned to the Republic of Serbia after completing successfully its engagement.

This platoon-size unit was on a mission to secure the base where the Italian contingent of the United Nations peacekeeping forces was located, and it was also replaced by an SAF force protection platoon, sent to the AO in early March.

In the complex security conditions in Lebanon, the officers and soldiers carried out all tasks responsibly and professionally, as befits members of the Serbian Armed Forces, who regularly receive the highest marks and praise from their superiors and foreign partners for their involvement in peacekeeping operations.

The replacement of the Serbian force protection platoon has been officially conducted at a ceremony held at the UN base in Lebanon last week, in the presence of Sector West Commander, Brigadier General of the Italian Armed Forces, Nicola Mandolesi. At the ceremony, members of the Serbian Armed Forces, who completed their deployment, were presented with UN medals for successful participation in the mission, and the commander of the new platoon was handed the flag of the mission and thus, symbolically, the new unit assumed its duty.

The Serbian Armed Forces have been participating in the UNIFIL since 2010; in addition to the force protection platoon, an infantry company, staff officers at the mission HQ and a group of specialists in charge of supporting our contingent are engaged in this operation.
