Day of Serbian Armed Forces’ IT Service

Today, the Serbian Armed Forces have solemnly celebrated the Day of the IT Service and Day of the Command Information Systems and IT Support Center.
At ceremonies held on that occasion at the IT and Telecommunications Directorate (J-6) of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff and its subordinate units, the most important results of this service in the year behind were outlined, and awards and commendations handed over to the most successful individuals.
In reviewing the achieved results, the engagement of service members in the functioning and modernization of IT capabilities in the Ministry of Defense and Serbian Armed Forces, building new capabilities for action in cyberspace, raising the level of information security and establishing an organization in keeping with modern world trends was highlighted.
The Day of the IT Service and Day of the CIS and IT Support Center were marked in memory of February 21 1963, considered as the beginning of introduction of computer technology in the military. On that day, the Sixth Directorate of the General Staff of the Yugoslav People’s Army (JNA) was formed, to which the first military institution equipped with computer systems was subordinated.
