Members of the Serbian Armed Forces marked the eightieth anniversary of the sinking of the river monitor "Drava", which sank on April 12, 1941, after a heroic fight with a far superior enemy.
A commemorative ceremony in honor of the heroes of the April War who died 80 years ago, was held yesterday at the location of the "Drava" ship sinking, on the 1287th navigable kilometer of the Danube near Belegiš.
With the sounds of ship sirens and the honorary salute of the ship's guard, wreaths from the "Kozara" ship for special purpose were lowered into the water by the delegation of the River Flotilla and the grandson of the famous commander Aleksandar Berić.
The "Drava" river monitor sank on April 12, 1941, after a half-hour battle with four squadrons of German "pikes", taking 76 crew members with it to the bottom of the Danube, led by the battleship commander of the first class Aleksandar Berić.
