Minister of Defense Aleksandar Vulin, accompanied by Deputy Chief of Staff of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, Major General Petar Cvetković, visited today the Company for Training of Dog Handlers, Dog Breeding and Training of the Logistics Training Center at the “Knjaz Mihailo” barracks in Niš.
Minister Vulin: Serbian Armed Forces are developing all capabilities
After visiting the capacities of the unit, Minister Vulin pointed out that the Serbian Armed Forces are developing all of the capabilities.
— What we have been able to do in the past, we still can, and we are now raising it to a higher level. Dog training is of great importance to the Armed Forces, but not only for the Armed Forces. These dogs are trained not only for the guard duties, but also for combat tasks, as well as for finding unexploded mines, for finding those who were killed in a natural disaster and are able to find narcotics — stressed Minister Vulin, adding that dogs trained in this way are able to help all of us, and also to help the state of Serbia function better.
Development of training of dogs in the Serbian Armed Forces, Minister Vulin said, has great potential. The General Staff is considering the possibility to upgrade this Center so that others can come as well, to intensively train and obtain not only knowledge, but also dogs.
— It is upon the Serbian Armed Forces to develop all its capabilities and to always prepare to help everyone who needs help — Minister Vulin concluded.
Stressing that love between dog and man is the most important precondition for working in this unit, the Commander of the Company for Training of Dog Handlers, Dog Breeding and Training, Zdenko Cvijetić, pointed out that the Company, along with handler preparation, breeding and training, is also responsible for providing healthcare of dogs.
— We believe that the Company has the capacity to develop into a Dog Training Center, and that would be positive for the defense system and for the unification of the system of other institutions — emphasized Cvijetić, adding that the Company has a sufficient number of dogs and can satisfy the needs of our Armed Forces, and the breeds which are used are the German Shepherds, Belgian Sheepdogs, Yugoslav Mountain Dogs(Šarplaninac)and Labradors.
During the visit and after the briefing, Minister Vulin and his associates visited the Memorial Room, the Veterinary Clinic, the dog shelter, and attended the presentation of the training of dogs and dog handlers at the training ground.
The Deputy Commander of the Training Command, Major General Jelesija Radivojević, the Chief of Operations Directorate of the General Staff, Major General Želimir Glišović, the Commander of the Third Brigade of the Land Forces, Brigadier General Slađan Stamenković, the Chief of the Cabinet of the Minister of Defense, Brigadier General Siniša Kresović and the Commander of the Logistics Training Center, Colonel Dragan Ljubić were members of the delegation.
