The Saint Patron’s Day of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, Holy Great Martyr George - St. George’s Day has been solemnly marked at the “Banjica 2” Barracks in Belgrade today.
The host of the celebration, Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff General Milan Mojsilović, welcomed the guests and extended greetings to all members of the Serbian Armed Forces and citizens in the country and abroad who celebrate St. George’s Day.
He has pointed out the importance of nurturing the tradition and preserving the spiritual vertical axis for the strength of the military collective, stressing that the fact that the General Staff and units of the Serbian Armed Forces have their own spiritual patron serves to strengthen the spiritual and moral values and patriotism of the members of our armed forces.
The holy liturgy in the chapel of the Holy Great Martyr George, the heavenly patron of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, was served by Bishop of Lipjan and the Military Dositej, with assistance of military chaplains.
Members of the Collegium of the Chief of the General Staff and numerous officers, NCOs and civilians employed with the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff attended the liturgy and, subsequently, the blessing of the gifts and cutting of the ritual bread.
The Serbian Armed Forces General Staff has been celebrating its Patron’s (St. George’s) Day since 2018, thus continuing the tradition of celebration of the Saint Patron’s Day in the Serbian army that began in 1888.
