Tactical Exercise "Shield 05" was conducted at "South" Base and Training Ground "Borovac" intended to check the combat readiness and capabilities of SAF units declared for deployment on multinational operations according to the Operational Capabilities Concept.
During the two-week exercise activities, in line with the exercise scenario, a light infantry company, two MP platoons and two CBRN platoons solved tactical problems tailored to the situations they could experience on multinational operations.
During the exercise, in line with the reached level of preparedness, the light infantry company, one MP platoon and one CBRN platoon completed the final second-level examination conducted by the multinational assessment team. On the other hand, the first-level self-evaluation, conducted by SAF evaluators, was completed successfully by the MP Platoon and CBRN platoon. SAF units met the capability standards required for deployment in multinational environment, showing high-level skills and professionalism in task execution.
According to the Operational Capabilities Concept, units declared for participation in multinational operations go through thorough preparations and four levels of examination of interoperability and combat readiness. The host country is in charge of the first two levels, while the final two ones are assessed by the international assessment team.
The Operational Capabilities Concept represents a form of cooperation among the Partnership for Peace member states. Through its application, the SAF manage to reach the interoperability standards and to develop the units’ operational capabilities for participation in multinational operations.
