First Parachute Jumps by Soldiers on Military Service
Friday, 9.2.2024 | Training
Soldiers of the “September 2023” intake completing second part of their military service in the 63rd Parachute Brigade of the Serbian Armed Forces have successfully performed their first parachute jumps.
This is the final part of soldiers’ basic parachute training, which includes jumps aimed at getting to know the parachute and its maneuverability, those performed with opening a reserve parachute, those with carrying personal weapons and equipment and the ones done in night conditions.
The jumps were carried out from the Mi-17 helicopter in the area of the Military Airfield “Sergeant-Pilot Mihajlo Petrović” in Niš, with the use of landing parachutes that enable maneuvering to avoid obstacles and landing on the desired drop zone.
To access this training segment, the soldiers first had to undergo individual training at the Training Command centers, then special operations tactics, firearms training and ground parachute training in the 63rd Parachute Brigade. During that time, they acquired basic military knowledge, learned to handle modern weapons and equipment and mastered parachute jumping techniques and procedures in emergency situations.
As they completed their parachute training with flying colors, the soldiers earned the title of “paratrooper”, that is, the opportunity to become professional members of this elite SAF unit after their military service, which is something they have largely been interested in.
