The Serbian Armed Forces’ Peacekeeping Operations Centre organized an international course on the protection of civilians in peacekeeping operations which has been held at the “South” Base this week.

The course was attended by members of the Serbian Armed Forces and the armed forces of Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, the United States of America and Türkiye.

At our centre, they acquired basic knowledge about how to apply the mandate of protecting civilians in UN peacekeeping operations, about current standards and procedures related to a more effective protection of civilians and proper behavior in situations where civilian lives are in immediate danger.

The lessons were delivered by the Peacekeeping Operations Centre’s Instructors Team, with the engagement of a visiting lecturer from the partner center from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This is the tenth time that the international course on the protection of civilians has been conducted at the Peacekeeping Operations Centre, certified by the UN Integrated Training Service.

Implementation of such advancement courses strengthens the status of our centre as an internationally recognized institution for training individuals and units to participate in peacekeeping operations, confirming, at the same time, the determination of the Serbian Armed Forces to take all necessary measures to protect civilians.
