Last week, at the Dog Training Center in Niš, handlers and military working dogs (MWDs) completed their counter-terrorist and counter-sabotage training in SAF special and military police units, which lasted several months.
During that period of time, professional soldiers - handlers were trained to use dogs in special operations and provide first aid in case the dog is injured or wounded, while the MWDs also underwent appropriate training.
In accordance with the tasks that handlers and dogs are supposed to fulfill in SAF units, they received general training and practiced the actions such as overcoming natural and artificial obstacles, breaking into facilities and motor vehicles and neutralizing enemies, to include one of the most important training segments - offensive helicopter operations.
The dogs at the Center were specially selected and bred for this purpose and assigned to special and MP units after completing the training process, where they will perform tasks together with the handlers they trained with in the previous months.
Training of handlers and dogs for special actions and operations contributes to the improvement of SAF Special Forces’ capabilities, since dogs are an irreplaceable companion in a number of tasks thanks to their superior senses and the ability to defeat the enemy quickly without using lethal force.
