Day of the Fourth Army Brigade Observed

Yesterday, in the barracks “First Infantry Regiment of the Prince Miloš the Great“ in Vranje, a celebration was held to mark the Day of the Fourth Army Brigade – 31st January.
The celebration was attended by the Army Commander Lieutenant Colonel Milosav Simović, Mayor of the town of Vranje Slobodan Milenković, Head of Pčinja Administrative district Srećko Pejković, presidents and representatives of municipalities, associations of military pensioners, representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church, organisation of reserve officers and NCOs and warriors and descendants of liberation wars, directors and representatives of state and private companies, educational and public institutions, non-governmental organisations, reverers and friends of the Fourth Army Brigade.
Commander of the Fourth Army Brigade Colonel Slobodan Stopa said in his address: “We must not consign to oblivion all those who gave their greatest pledge to the fatherland – their lives – in the liberation of Vranje from Turks, in the Balkan Wars, the First and Second World War, Combat Actions of the 90’ of the last century and in the fights during the NATO Aggression”. In the end of the speech he gave assurances that the members of the brigade would in the period to come discharge all the assigned tasks professionally just like they had done until then.
To mark the Day of the Unit, the members of the Fourth Army Brigade organised a ceremonial march past of the units and demonstration of equipment and armaments. Stimulating measures were also presented during the celebration to the most deserving officers, NCOs and Soliders, and the military badges were conferred with inscriptions “Exemplary Officer”, “Exemplary NCO”, “Exemplary Soldier”, “The best crew-team” and a badge “Excellent Marksman”. A special recognition the “Plaque of the Fourth Army Brigade” was given to the Mayor of the town of Vranje, Dr Slobodan Milenković .
The members of the Fourth Brigade marked the Slava of the Brigade, Saint Atanasije the Great” in area for religious service named after this Saint. The festive liturgy was led by Bishop of Vranje Pahomije, with the joint service of archimandrite Jovan (Radisavljević), military chaplains Lieutenant Goran Sandić, Captain Ivan Avrammović and Second Lieutenant Ivan Ganić.
In the framework of celebration of the Day of the Fourth Army Brigade and Day of the Town of Vranje, on the occasion of the 140th Anniversary of the liberation of the town from Turkish slavery, the members of the Brigade, accompanied by the Army military orchestra conducted a march past through the town to the Monument to the Liberators of Vranje, where they were lined up by echelons and attended wreath laying at the Monument, and later in front of a great number of gathered citizens they sang the national anthem “Bože Pravde”. On behalf of the Serbian Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence, the wreath was laid at the Monument by a three member delegation led by General Milosav Simović.
