At the “South” Base and the “Borovac” Training Ground near Bujanovac, a tactical exercise entitled “Serbian Shield” was carried out last week, as part of the final part of preparations made by the SAF infantry company for participation in UNIFIL.
The exercise intended to check the competence of this unit from the 3rd Army Brigade in the implementation of tasks as part of the UN peacekeeping forces.
During several days of training activities, the tactical actions of the infantry company were monitored and evaluated in situations that can be expected in the Area of Operation.
Control of the proper undertaking of actions and compliance with international training standards that the unit should meet was carried out by the assessment team from the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff and the results of the evaluation have shown that this contingent is also fully qualified for engagement in the mission.
The engagement of the SAF infantry company in the UN peacekeeping operation in Lebanon began in 2013, and the unit performs its tasks as part of the Spanish battalion. In Lebanon, there is also a force protection platoon of the SAF, as part of the Italian contingent, as well as staff officers and a group of specialists in charge of support.
