At the “Car Lazar” Barracks and “Ravnjak” Military Complex in Kruševac, members of the 246th CBRN Battalion are undergoing their routine training in providing security of the Serbian Armed Forces against nuclear and chemical accidents.
This training activity aims to sustain and advance further the skills of professional staff, and, in this phase, it focuses on perfecting the tactics, techniques and procedures during reconnaissance and decontamination of an area contaminated by depleted uranium ammunition.
In accordance with the training program, through theoretical lessons, the unit members are refreshing their knowledge about basic characteristics of DU ammunition, protection measures and consequences it has for the people, material and technical assets. Afterwards, they are putting into action the procedures for marking contamination areas, tracing them and detecting each individual DU penetrator.
By using sources of radioactive contamination on exercise, they conduct simulation of ionizing radiation, checking at the same time the knowledge of modern radiological detection and dosimetry assets belonging to the 246th CBRN Battalion, in order to attain safety and reliability at work.
Successful implementation of this training activity is meant to upgrade the skills of the 246th CBRN Battalion’s serving personnel in performing specific tasks on SAF’s operations, as well as their readiness to provide efficient support to civil authorities in alleviating the effects of technical-technological and other disasters.
