Professional personnel of the Mixed Artillery Brigade of the Army are currently undergoing training with self-propelled gun-howitzers 155 mm B-52 M-15 “Nora” at the Training Ground “Rujnička Kosa” in the vicinity of Niš.

The training activity aims not only to sustain high proficiency of artillerymen in providing fire support to the Serbian Armed Forces’ evolution units on operation, but also to practice the coordination and teamwork of the crews of this modern artillery system.

During training, the crews, consisting of a squad commander, gunner, driver of a motor vehicle and two crewmen, mainly practice taking actions in the waiting position, marching, gun emplacement and leaving the firing position.

Deputy Commander of a self-propelled gun-howitzer battery Captain Stevan Todorović has pointed out that the self-propelled gun-howitzer B-52 “Nora” is characterized by “increased mobility, shorter time of gun emplacement and leaving the firing position, more precise target engagement and fewer crewmen when compared to the previous, classic type of artillery”.

— The weapon is armed with a 155 mm caliber as a basic weapon. There are also a 20 mm M-55 gun, a 12.7 mm M-87 machine gun and a smoke pot launcher - said Captain Todorović, emphasizing that “Nora” was a fully automated system, which, in addition to high accuracy of fire, was characterized by faster data processing, as well as digitization of the operational procedure.

Sergeant Nemanja Popović, a gunner of the self-propelled gun-howitzer, emphasized that the work he performed was very conscientious and responsible.

— The difference from towed howitzers is in its faster work, shorter time of gun emplacement, faster data transmission, accuracy and firing distance; that way, it can engage targets quickly and efficiently— said Sergeant Popović.

Corporal Božidar Krstić, as a “Nora”’s crewman, performs preparatory tasks of lowering and raising legs and loading the combat vehicle with appropriate ammunition. He points out that the advantage of “Nora” is, among other things, its ability to fire more missiles per minute.

—Working in a self-propelled gun-howitzer battalion requires exceptional physical fitness, focus, sacrifice, determination, motivation and team spirit from a professional soldier. Hereby, I would like to invite all young men and women up to the age of 30 to apply to the competition, which is open until February 15, and to become part of the winning team - emphasized Corporal Krstić.

The job advertisement for admission to the Serbian Armed Forces’ tank, artillery and mechanized units is also an opportunity for young people to get secure employment with retirement benefits, high-quality military health insurance for themselves and their family members, and the possibility of continuous advancement and career development.
