The Air Force and Air Defence Day Marked

The Air Force and Air Defence Day, December 24, was marked today at the Batajnica Airfield.
The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Commander of the Air Force and Air Defence, Brigadier General Sava Milenković, the representatives of the MoD and the Serbian Armed Forces, the Serbian Orthodox Church, retired members of the AF and AD, as well as families of heroes, members of the AF and AD, who laid down their lives on the altar of the homeland.
President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, the Minister of Defence, Aleksandar Vulin, and the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff sent congratulations on the holiday.
Recalling the glorious tradition, General Milenković pointed out that we have a lasting task and obligation to cherish the memories of those who fell defending our homeland, as well as their works and achievements.
– Since the Balkan Wars, through the First and the Second World War, the war on the territory of the former SFRY, as well as in 1999 in the fight against NATO to the present day, the history of the service has been written by generations of pilots, AD and ASEWG personnel, various technicians and specialists, said General Milenković. He added that we can be proud of them because they always have been up for the task.
This year’s accomplishments guarantee that the next year will be even more successful, when we expect to acquire key combat assets, MiG-29 aircraft, Mi-17 and H-145 multi-purpose helicopters, Mi-35 combat helicopters and modern missile systems, pointed out General Milenković,
The Air Force and Air Defence Day was marked also at the Lađevci Airfield and the Banjica Barracks.
The Air Force and Air Defence Day is celebrated on December 24 in memory of the day in 1912 when the Air Force Command based in Niš was established.
