Training for Demining and UXO Disposal
Wednesday, 21.4.2021 | Training
Members of the unit for demining and disposal of unexploded explosive ordnance from the 3rd Army Brigade are carrying out regular training at a peacetime location and preparing for the tasks that await them during the new season.
Despite the fact that these are experienced professionals, who have completed demanding training in the country and abroad and have acquired internationally recognized certificates for humanitarian demining, training in the unit is conducted daily.
In 2017 this unit started executing tasks on demining and disposal of unexploded explosive ordnance in military facilities, and in the meantime, it has gained invaluable experience in working with cluster munition, aerial bombs and domestic explosive ordnance. During last year, members of the unit were engaged in in-depth field search and pyrotechnic support to engineering works on 11 locations throughout the Republic of Serbia, and they were also engaged in exercises and disposal of unexploded explosive ordnance that has been found.
The execution of the unit’s tasks requires good selection of staff, thorough preparation for fieldwork and proper use of protective equipment. Owing to good preparation, organization and conscientious approach to each task, in 2020 the unit cleared 19 hectares of different terrain, where about 1500 pieces of unexploded explosive ordnance were found. Earlier this month, members of the unit were sent to new locations, in order to make those terrains safe for everyday use.
