Rotation of Serbian Armed Forces Contingent in UN mission in Cyprus
Tuesday, 9.11.2021 | Multinational Operations
Members of the Serbian Armed Forces military police section, who have been deployed in the United Nations peacekeeping operation in Cyprus since April this year, have returned to the Republic of Serbia after handing over their duties to a new Serbian Armed Forces contingent, which went to the area of operation in the middle of last month.
In the previous six months, as part of the British contingent, they successfully completed all set tasks in accordance with the mission's mandate and thus best represented the training and high professionalism of the Serbian Armed Forces personnel.
In the peacekeeping operation in Cyprus, together with members of the British Armed Forces, the Serbian Armed Forces military police section performs a wide range of tasks, such as conducting contingent protection measures, UN-led investigations, security patrols, escorts of very important persons and cooperating with local police forces.
This is the first unit of the Serbian Armed Forces that the Republic of Serbia has deployed in the mission in Cyprus after a three-year break. Previously, from 2011 to 2018, infantry platoon level unit was deployed in this peace operation. In addition to the military police section, the Serbian Armed Forces also deploys staff officers in the mission headquarters in Nicosia.
