Departure of Serbian Armed Forces’ Contingent with UNIFIL

A military ceremony has been held at the “Ribnica” Barracks in Kraljevo today on the occasion of departure of a new Serbian Armed Forces’ contingent with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
The contingent consists of the 2nd Army Brigade’s infantry company, staff officers, who will be engaged at the Mission HQ, and a group of specialist officers in charge of supporting our contingent. Over the next six months, as part of the peacekeeping forces, they will be performing responsible peacekeeping tasks in Sector “East” of the United Nations peacekeeping operation in this Middle Eastern country.
The ceremony has been attended by State Secretary in the Ministry of Defense Nemanja Starović, Chief of the Operations Directorate (J-3) of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff Major General Tiosav Janković, Chief of Staff of the Army Command Brigadier General Zoran Dragićević, representatives of SAF units, religious communities and local government bodies, as well as relatives and friends of the soldiers and officers who are being deployed in the peacekeeping operation.
State Secretary Starović handed the flag of the Republic of Serbia to Infantry Company Commander Captain 1st Class Miljan Đurić, and wished the Serbian Armed Forces’ members a successful implementation of intended tasks in the Area of Operation and a safe return to their homeland.
The Serbian Armed Forces’ participation in UNIFIL began in 2010; in addition to the contingent in Sector East, there is an SAF platoon for the protection of peacekeeping forces in Sector West currently deployed in this operation.
