The Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff General Miloje Miletic, and the Chief of the UK Army Chief of General Staff, General Sir Peter Wall, in a joint media statement, agreed that the bilateral cooperation between the Serbian Armed Forces and the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom was good and concluded that there was still room for further improvement of these relations.
- In the period behind us, the cooperation was mainly based on education and training of officers. Eight Serbian Army officers completed the Royal College of Great Britain, and three officers of the Serbian army have completed the Command Staff training in the UK. On the other hand, the United Kingdom is one of the largest donors in terms of the programs for English language study in our country. It is certain that Great Britain is one of the countries which provides generous support for the reform of the Serbian Army through its programs – as General Miletic said.
- General Peter Wall was kind enough to inform us about the reforms the UK defense system is undergoing and on the involvement of the armed forces of Great Britain in multinational operations, which the is of great importance for SAF given the great operational experience that UK troops have in this area- as General Miletic observed.
As for the further improvement of our relations and further cooperation between the Serbian Army and the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom, General Wall was particularly interested in the possibilities of the forming a Regional NBC Training Centre and the possibility of British military delegation to visit the center. General Wall expressed his interest in the possible exchange of a number of officers, monitoring the work of the units of the Serbian army and providing support and exchange experiences in training and training of the declared units.
- The visit was very encouraging and we look forward to implementing the projects mentioned by General and maintaining close relations of cooperation in the future-as the UK Army Chief of general Staff, General Wall stressed.
General Wall pointed out the progress Serbian army has made and the increasing stability when it comes to promoting peace in the Balkans, and the importance of he positive role of the Serbian Army by participating in multinational operations around the world as an observer.
- Our two countries have had a long history of cooperation, which is an excellent basis to ensure that future cooperation be just as successful. We must work together, learn from each other. No army in the world can not resist changes and we in the UK will have to implement major reforms in our armed forces over the next ten years, too, so today was General Miletic informed me about the reforms implemented in the Serbian Army, specifically the completion of the professionalization of your army.
Furthermore, the UK Army Chief of General Staff, General Sir Peter Wall, met with Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac.
