On the occasion of the Military Music Service Day, Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces, Major General Petar Cvetković received today a delegation of this service in the „Banjica 2” barracks in Belgrade.
The delegation of the Military Music Service was headed by the Deputy Head of the Representative Orchestra of the Guard and the conductor Major Nebojša Stojiljković. The reception was also attended by the Head of the Human Resources Department (J-1), Colonel Savo Iriškić.
The Military Music Service Day is celebrated on January 10th in memory of 1845, when a military law on the organization of military garrisons defined that military band comprises 50 musicians (kapellmeister, drum major, drummer and 47 plain musicians), which was similar to the then European armies.
Nowadays, Military Music Orchestras—the Symphony Orchestra within the Artistic Ensemble of the Ministry of Defence ”Stanislav Binički”, the Representative Orchestra of the Guard, the Niš Military Orchestra—participate in marking the most important state and military ceremonials, and by its performances the Military Music Service contributes to sustaining and cherishing the culture and traditions of the Republic of Serbia.
