There was a ceremony at "Banjica 2" Barracks today to mark the Holy Martyr George Day, the St. Patron Day (slava) of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff.
The host of the slava, Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, welcomed the guests congratulating all members of the Serbian Armed Forces on today's holiday as well as all citizens observing the St. George Day. The Holy Hierarchical Liturgy was performed by His Holiness kyr Porfirije, Patriarch of Serbia and Bishop of Niš and Military, Arsenije, and military chaplains assisting in the service. The Liturgy, consecration of gifts and breaking of bread were attended by the Board of Chief of General Staff, numerous officers, NCOs and civilians employed with the SAF General Staff.
Subsequently, General Milan Mojsilović hosted a reception for Patriarch Porfirije to discuss the cooperation between the Serbian Armed Forces and Serbian Orthodox Church so far, how the military chaplains have been progressing at work and plans for further development of the Chaplaincy Service in the Serbian Armed Forces. The cooperation between these two institutions has been estimated to be highly developed and fully oriented towards strengthening the spiritual and moral values and patriotism of our service personnel.
The Serbian Armed Forces General Staff started celebrating the slava — the St. George Day — in 2018 resuming the tradition of celebrating the Patron Saint practiced in the Serbian Army ever since 1888.
